ABOUT THE HAIR DESIGN PROGRAM

Black Girl Beauty School of Careers welcomes students who are strong, self-motivated and fast paced learners who desire to learn, grow, beautify and help others. The beauty business is a recession free industry that’s wide open, with unlimited opportunities! 

At hair design school (also known as hairstyling school), you'll learn a combination of practical skills, theory, and professionalism needed to work as a hairstylist or cosmetologist. Here's a breakdown of what you can typically expect to learn:

• Scissor and razor cutting
• Men's and women's haircuts
• Layering, texturizing, and thinning techniques

• Color theory (warm vs. cool tones, levels, and undertones)
• Permanent, semi-permanent, and temporary coloring
• Highlights, balayage, ombré, root touch-ups
• Color correction

• Blow drying, flat ironing, curling
• Updos, braiding, and wedding/event hairstyles
• Styling for different hair types and textures

• Perms and relaxing treatments
• Keratin smoothing treatments
• Understanding chemical safety and scalp health

• Structure of the hair and scalp
• Hair growth cycles
• Identifying common scalp disorders

• Disinfection and sterilization procedures
• Safe handling of tools and chemicals
• Infection control regulations

• How to assess client needs
• Offering advice on hair care and styles
• Building and maintaining a clientele
